Barcelona’s best Beaches

Barcelona and the area around is filled with beaches, you just need to know which type you are looking for! So take a look below and start packing your bags, don’t forget your sunblock, sun hat, and maybe your sand free towels if you have them, so you can go and enjoy yourself at the beach.

La Barceloneta

This is the closest beach to be reached from the centre of Barcelona. It is perfect for a Sunday afternoon walk and/or coffe during the winter months.

In summer from June to September the area is so over-filled by tourists that you won’t be able to enjoy it anymore.
The beach is quite nice when you avoid the summer months and therefore all the tourists.

How to get there ?
Take the yellow metro to Barceloneta and then it’s a walk of circa 10 minutes down to the beach.
Busses: V15 / 45 from Placa Cataluya

Bogatell

This is my personal favourite where I went when I didn’t have the time to escape the city.
The beach is a little further away from the city centre and you’ll find less tourists and in general less people than in La Barceloneta. But don’t get fooled in the summer months there is no beach that is empty.
The water and the beach is cleaner and you’ll find less tourists and children around here.

How to get there ?
There is no metro that brings you close to this beach. Take the bus and walk circa 5 min down to the beach.
Busses: H16 / 59 from Placa Catalunya

Mar Bella

Mar Bella got famous for its nudity, but by today it is not like this anymore. You will find a lot of gay people around here as they like to call it ‘the gay beach‘ themselves.
The beach is similar to the one I just described before, but it fuller because of its short distance to the metro station.

How to get there ?
Take the yellow metro to Poblenou or Selva de Mar and then it’s a walk of circa 10 minutes down to the beach.
Busses: H16 from Placa Catalunya

Though I was in Barcelona for a couple of days, I couldn’t make it to the beaches. Looks like I missed a lot. Will there be a second chance for me?
Happy New Year!

When we were in Barcelona we went to La Barceloneta, as most tourists do, but it is nice to see the other choices available too.

Barcelona is actually on my travel list for this year, so I found this post quite inspiring. I would definitely want to see Mar Bella, just for its notoriety. I am not much for lounging at the beach, but when I go, I prefer the less crowded ones.
