Berlin’s top 7 things to do

Hello Sparkling People,

I am back from Dubai and can’t wait to share my experiences from this travel, however it will take some time to filter all my thoughts and to write it into good articles so for now here are my best tips for Berlin!

Nobelhart & Schmutzig

One of the most discussed restaurants in Berlin: Nobelhart & Schmutzig is one of the only restaurants which makes use of solely basic ingredients from Berlin and the areas around and has yet gotten a Michelin star.

The location is beautiful – you will find yourself seated on one of the 27 seats around the open kitchen. Seeing exactly how the plates are prepared, while you are enjoying a glass of wine in intimacy  with another person while you feel to be part of the restaurant’s style and vibe.

The restaurant is offering only a fixed 10 plate menu, which consists out of all types of different ingredients, all from the area of Berlin. I must say my favourite dish was a plate that presented only raw fish. From what I recall it was the best raw fish that I have tried till today. Listen to the explanations that come with every dish – it is not just about cooking something well, but most of all about about knowing when to use an incredient and with what to serve it.

The wine selection to the menu is perfect, every wine has its own flavour and a full  structure to explore.

The concept of the Nobelhart& Schmutzig restaurant is to experience the food fully, while tasting the first plates only with your hand, before they even offer you a fork and knife.

Definitely a place that I’ll go back to try explore the new menu, when I’ll be in in the city again.

Tip: 27 seats? You should definitely reserve a place before going and that days ahead! The waiting list is growing every day.

THE WYLD

THE WYLD is probably one of the most discussed theatric productions in Berlin. The stage ,situated in the Friedrichstadt-Palast, is the largest one that you can find in the world and the production is one of the most expensive ones worldwide too – I have heard the only productions that exceeds this one in terms of costs are based in Las Vegas.

Something that happens very view times in a theatric production (because of the costs) are many artists at the same time on stage. In this case I was overwhelmed by the amount of artists performing at the same time. The show is impressive and shows a lot of different types of performances, while uniting a unique concept in a style a-la ‘Cirque du Soleil’.

Definitely a one in a kind show as you can find them in Europe, if you have the chance, go and see for yourself !

Tip: The tickets are not even pricy 😉

Shopping

Berlin offer us so many different areas with different style of clothing and other type of things, which makes it one of the most vast shopping cities, that I have seen so far.

Most of the cities are concentrated in one style and one area, but this city units them all.

Here you can find a list of my favourite shops, mostly around the area of the Häckischermarkt and Ku’damm:

  • Voo Berlin ( Fashion // Oranienstraße 24, Berlin Kreuzberg)
  • The good store ( Fashion // Pannierstraße 31, Berlin Kreuzberg)
  • Temporary Showroom (Fashion // Kastanienallee 36A, Berlin Mitte)
  • Bureau-n (Fashion //
  • Konk Berlin (Fashion //
  • Das neue Schwarz (Fashion // Mulackstraße 38, Berlin Mitte)
  • Andreas Murkudis (Fashion // Almstadtstraße 1, Berlin Mitte) – one of my favourite !
  • WEIFENBACH (Rosenthalerstrasse 51, Berlin Mitte)
  • Oona Galerie (Jewellry // Auguststrasse 26, Berlin mitte)
  • DRYKORN (Fashion // Neue Schoenhauser Strasse 6, Berlin Mitte)

Sightseeing / Go back in time

Germanys capital brings us back in time and lets us live the history all over the city. You can find so many spaces filled with sculptures and monuments like in nearly no German city. Walking through the city form west to east you can feel the difference in architectonic style and will be seeing the differences also in the type of people and live among the streets.

Take your day and just walk to the city from one side to the other, experiencing step-by-step the change of the city. Starting in Alexanderplatz and going all through to the Friedrichstrasse and the Brandenburgertor you will feel a different Berlin.

Käfer DACHGARTEN-RESTAURANT

A one-in-kind location in the hearth of Berlin. Here you can find history and German culinary united in one location.

The food is based upon the most typical German and Berlin’s local plates. The presentation the single courses is beautiful and the ambience is very classical and elegant.

I can only suggest you to try the testing menu which, allows you 3 to 4 plates that offer the delicious taste of Germany.

After dinner have a walk trough the Reichstag where you probably will be nearly alone, and enjoy the view from the top over the city of Berlin, as well as from the Terrace of the restaurant.

Be aware that you will need to reserve a table and bring your passport in order to get to the Dachterasse restaurant, because the security control for the Reichstag is very high.

Party like a Berliner

One thing you shall not miss while travelling in Berlin is to party like a Berliner.

The leading music scene it’s mostly under ground and deep/house and electronic sounds.

The probably most famous club in Berlin, which includes underground sounds and hundreds of people starving for the night and day to dance in the east side of Berlin is called Berghain.

However I would not recommend you to go there, the waiting queue is enormous and the Club director does not have a heart for people that don’t dress in the Berlin style. So don’t waist hours waiting to get in, if you will probably stay outside at the end.

Instead try out one of the following clubs:

Find the museum of your interest

You can also find a vast number of museums of every type. What ever you’re a fan of or are interested in, you will find what you are looking for. Go to the magic museum and experience a day full go surprises or go to one of the more classical historic museums.

If you are more for art you can find hundreds of small galleries offering style and difference in their 4 walls. You will find some of the most particular designs and sculpturing in the city too.

Some of the weird and unique museums include:

  • Museum of Extraordinary Things
  • Currywurst museum
  • Sugar museum

I hope these tips will help you when planning for your next trip in this beautiful city. Here you can find some hotel reviews of Berlin.

Best, Be-Sparkling.

My favorite part about Berlin was exploring its historical sites such as their infamous wall. I did a guided walking tour there and it was great. Really is an awesome city:D Would love to go back soon.

I loved Berlin but I didn’t try Nobelhart & Schmutzig. It sounds really interesting. I love haute cuisine so I’m sure I’d want to visit. I did go to Kafer though and loved it! The food and views were amazing!

Berlin is only travel-friend from there, and she keeps telling how high-up it should be in an art aficionado’s list! Your post is very different from what I knew of Berlin and will bookmark it for future visits.

Such an interesting list different from the usual must-see sites in Berlin. I like that Nobelhart & Schmutzig only uses locally-sourced products. I can’t believe Friedrichstadt-Palast has the largest stage apart from Las Vegas – that’s really impressive!

Such an amazing list. I feel Nobelhart & Schmutzig will be really cool. The seating around kitchen and seeing in real your plate being arranged will be a experience in itself. I will love to shop as well as party too. Thanks for sharing this. It will be of great help while traveling to Berlin.

When I visited Berlin I walked the other way around, from Friedrichstrasse all the way to Alexanderplatz, to admire the sunset there. I only had a day to spend in Berlin and I got to see quite a lot by following this route.
