Cadaques: The city of Artists

Finally I’m speaking about one of my favourite cities in Spain: Cadaques.

The city is situated more or less 170 km north of Barcelona and it is one of the most artistic cities I have ever seen.

The beautiful city is filled with artists, is beautiful, relaxing, ambienting, empowering, intellectual and more, all that you can say about this place. I have only been visiting the city once, but I am already planning on going back soon.

If you are planning on visiting the city here are my top tips to take into account when travelling to Cadaques.

Music: Here is my spotify song to read the blog post with!

How to get there ?

Getting to Cadaques is one of the most difficult things, you will have to organise for your trip.

Cadaques is circa 170 km north of Barcelona and you can not reach it by train nor are there any direct busses from Barcelona.

The best ways to get there

  • by own car
  • renting a car (very cheap deals here
  • by chartering (p.e. blablacar)

Where to stay

Just like always, this decision depends a lot on your personal opinion and your style of travel, but if you are really looking for something exceptional have a look at this hotel: Calma Blanca.

I haven’t been able to test it during my stay (maybe next time), but it has a great look and feel for what I can tell.

For the area I’d suggest to stay somewhere close to Calle Miquel Roset where all the bars and nightlife is situated.

Not to miss in Cadaques

To look at the city from the sea.

The best way to do that if you don’t habe your own boat? Call Juanito’s Taxi Boat and let him show you all the beauty Cadaques has to offer from the sea side.

He organised us a personalised tour and showed us everything from the hells cove, the Cap du Creu, the nature preserved area and Port Lligat. Juanito is super helpful and knows the area like no other. Of course all excursions are totally personalised.

You want that?  Just give him a call (+34) 666 382 852 or send an email

The delicious food.

Cadaques offers some of the most delicious food in Spain on a very high level. Lying just next to the sea it is easy to guess that the fish is fresh and delicious. Here is what I’d recommend you:

Can Tito: For great high quality dinner. Raw, deliciously grilled or in white wine sauce – their fish is always on top of the list!

Tip: Have the Paco & Lola white wine and the carpaccio di gambas for the best start of your evening!

Losai Cadaques: A lovely small restaurant just next to the port. Try the Ravioli with black octopus sauce so amazing!

S’Estrop: Perfect place to have at lunch the famous Catalan Paella.

Meliton Bar: Great bar for a quick aperitif and an Aperol Spritz.

Salvador Dalí’s Villa

The famous artist Salvador Dalí among other artists called this beautiful city his home and left lots of feelings back that you can find and feel up to today.

One of these is his own villa that is close to the Port Lligat. The structure is quite impressive and definitely worth a visit. You’ll be entering the place in groups of circa 8 people and a guide that explains all details of Dalís life.

Entrance fee: 11€
Circa 10 min walking distance to port of Cadaques.

Attention: you have to reserve your entrance prior to your visit!

Nightlife

As small as Cadaques might be, as over crowded it is during summer time. This has lot of up and down sides, but for nightlife it is definitely a positive change. Here are my best bars to not miss during your stay.

Cafe de la Habana: cute bar with live music at night. The music and the cocktails are great.

Calle Miguel Rosset: A street filled with bars, restaurants and even one disco bar where to dance till late night or early morning.

I hope this helped you guys to plan your weekend. If you need anything else just drop me a message or add a comment below.

Best, Be-Sparkling!

Cadaques sounds like such a unique place to explore! I’d definitely want to start with Salvador Dali’s villa, the man has always fascinated me. And after seeing your pictures, i totally understand why you need to see it from a boat out on the sea.

While you say it’s difficult to get to unless you have a car, it seems that it’s worth organising to see what this place has to offer. Seeing Salvador Vali’s villa is definitely a must for me 🙂

From your photos I wouldn’t think for a second that Cadaques was a town in Spain. My mind would probably immediately fly to Greece. I love the quiet feel of the town and the bright colors. I always love it when I get to a place where there are not many tourists. I love getting to know the proper local culture and experience the place the same was as a local would.
